William Macgonagall
1825 -- 1902
Following a sudden inspiration, William Macgonagall decided overnight to become a writer. He misinterpreted Queen Victoria's polite rejection of his begging letter as royal recognition of his talent and began to give flaming speeches against drinking in pubs, "often so masterfully bad that he unconsciously stumbled backwards into genius", according to an eyewitness. Readings followed in circus tents where he had the audience throw eggs, flour, herrings, potatoes and stale bread at him for money. He quickly gained a certain notoriety as the "worst writer in the world", but was always happy to acknowledge that this was also an endorsement.
lyrics
William Macgonagall
He was a writer of fantastic stories
And he wrote the best he could
But the people didn’t like his lyrics
And everybody thought he’s crap
They threw him off with moldy apples
but he wouldn’t mind a bit
Thy couldn’t stop him doing all his readings
He just wanted to be loved
