Mad Jack Mytton
1796 -- 1834
Mad Jack Mytton was already a legend in his own lifetime -- the gambling daredevil had never learned to handle money and squandered an enormous fortune in the course of his short life. This was mainly due to his strange habit of leaving bundles of banknotes lying around everywhere, as well as his fatal weakness for gambling. He would take any bet, no matter how hair-raising, jump off balconies on horseback and ride in dramatic races against the railway. Once, when he was plagued by a particularly persistent hiccup, he spontaneously set himself on fire to frighten himself. The burning Mytton was extinguished just in time.
